Ellen Vanderslice is a retired architect and urban designer by day, and internationally known as an outspoken pedestrian rights activist. After dark she hones her musical chops as an award-winning composer and accomplished jazz vocalist who has performed at venues around Portland, as well as in Seattle, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Honolulu, London, Copenhagen and Melbourne, Australia.
Ellen is one of the few original band members remaining after 15 years … and she continues to play a large role with the band, as our primary female vocalist, arranger, and trombone section member.
About learning to play trombone she says, “The ‘bone has all those lovely low notes I can’t sing.”
